Hormone Therapy in Threatened and Habitual Abortion

Abstract
The incidence of the threatened abortion was 6.6 per cent (80 cases) from total 1, 211 pregnancies in Han-Il Hospital since Jan. 1965 till Dec. 1966.
1. Hormone therapy has no definite theoretical basis for its effects in the abortions which have= various causes. Nowadays, most clinicians vaguely practise hormone therapy.
2. Progesterone showed the therapeutic effect in 56 cases (70 per cent) from 80 cases of the threatened abortion.
3. The prognostic criteria in the threatened abortion are as the followings;
a) Hormonal environment the values of the urinary HCG and pregnanediol, and the vaginal smear index. The low urinary HCG and pregnanediol indicated poor prognosis.
b) If the genital bleeding stopped and the urinary HCG returned to the normal value within. one week from the beginning of progesterone administration, the prognosis is good and the. therapy may be further continued. If not so, the therapy is thought to be- discontinued.
4. Prophylactic hormone therapy for the habitual abortion was mentioned.
